Can I book a full-body MRI scan online?

Yes. You can self-refer and book a private full-body MRI online with GetScanned in minutes - no GP referral needed.

Follow-up explanation:

Booking a full-body MRI with GetScanned is simple and fully online. From our full-body MRI page, click “Book now” to choose your preferred clinic, select a convenient time, and complete secure checkout.

Your scan will take place at a CQC-registered partner clinic, carried out by qualified radiographers on hospital-grade MRI scanners. The images are independently reviewed by a consultant radiologist, and you’ll typically receive your digital report within 2–5 working days. You can then share your results directly with your GP or specialist if needed.

GetScanned gives you access to a secure online viewer where you can see your scan images alongside the radiologist’s commentary. Your report also includes the consulting GP’s notes, which explain the findings and outline the next steps.

Eligibility & self-referral:

Adults can self-refer for a private full-body MRI. During booking, you’ll complete a short safety questionnaire to confirm MRI suitability (e.g., pacemakers that are not MRI-conditional, certain implants, or retained metal fragments may require additional checks). If contrast is clinically indicated, the clinic team will assess this before your scan.

Preparation:

In most cases, no fasting is required. Wear comfortable clothing without metal (zips, underwire). You’ll be asked to remove jewellery, watches, and bank cards before entering the scanner room. If you’re claustrophobic, tell our operations team in advance - we can help find alternative options like wider-bore scanners (pre-arranged only). There are also calming techniques that we can share to put your mind at ease.

Safety:

MRI uses strong magnets, not ionising radiation. It’s considered very safe for most people. You must accurately declare any implants, previous surgeries, or known metal exposure so the clinical team can confirm MRI safety.

Results & continuity of care:

A consultant radiologist provides a clear, structured report. If anything needs follow-up, we can signpost appropriate next steps and you can involve your GP or a relevant specialist. You will also be able to access your images and reports with our report viewer technology.

Insurance & payment:

Payment is taken during online checkout, and your booking confirmation and instructions are emailed immediately. This is currently a self-pay service. Private medical insurers do not currently reimburse proactive full-body MRI scans. If it is medically required, please check your policy and speak with our operations team.

Important information:

  • A full-body MRI does not detect every disease or cancer and is not a substitute for NHS screening or medical care.
  • Some findings are incidental and may not be clinically significant.
  • If you have symptoms, seek medical advice; this service is not for urgent concerns.
  • MRI uses no ionising radiation.

Dr Nitin Shori

“Being able to book a self-referral full-body MRI at CQC-registered centres across the UK is an excellent screening option. Every scan is reported by UK consultant radiologists and can highlight findings that may need further investigation. If something is detected, the report will guide you on next steps - often recommending a more targeted MRI of the specific area.”
