When We Might Need a GP Referral

While most cases we are able to generate a referral for you, there are some examples of when this can’t be done:

• If it is an emergency. In this case it is always best to get yourself to the A&E or ring 111. 
• If you have a complicated medical history or if symptoms are complex, unexplained, or rapidly worsening. We may redirect you to your NHS GP or request to discuss your history with your doctor so that we can help coordinate care after the scan.
• Specialist cases that require a nuanced scan type (e.g. a very specific cardiac scan) may require a letter from your consultant.
